This is the Wide De Zhong, sculpturally carefully beautified by our amazing Craftsman Gu Xiao Ming again! Working from the Standard Classic De Zhong, Craftsman Gu WISELY created this Wide-Girthed De Zhong, and with all parts, every part, crafted and sculpted! As the silhouette becomes wider and slimmer horizontally, the lid knob gets a slim-crafted, wide stance. Notice also, to allow for a good grip, Craftsman Gu crafted it such that it is angled. Craftsman Gu makes sure that everything is cohesive: he wisely sculpted the back handle with a flared-upwards stance, and the front spout also curved slightly to complete the whole cohesive and outstandingly handsome De Zhong while remaining understated. He spent a lot of time with the back handle especially, he wishes to have his carefully worked handle be appreciated by all of us. And we can all attest to that in the photos. Explained, https://www.realzisha.com/blogs/news/actual-zisha-landscape-at-yixing , the Craftsman by selling his hard-worked ZiSha craft at $190-$240, $45-$65 goes to the cost of the craft, inclusive of the fees for the firing for the kiln operator (three times per pot), the packaging boxes, and between $32 to $52 for the clay (Zi Ni Di Cao Qing, Duan Ni and upwards) used per pot. Craftsman takes 3 days (fastest 2.5days) to craft a pot. Out of 12 pots he makes a month of 30days, 9 pots will survive the kiln firing successfully. Out of 9 pots, a Craftsman on average sells 7 pots per month. For ZiSha models/designs that are very challenging and more complicated to craft, time taken will be longer, and the failure rate will be higher as well. Zhu Ni pots have higher failure rates than Zi Ni and Duan Ni pots too. (Dear Friends, during the photo-taking process, five to six separate spotlights above and around, are used. Looking at the photos, the collar-rim of the lid-body interface thus shows the various spotlights' reflection. You will therefore see 2 to 3 scattered brighter spots around the collar-rim. This will allay concerns from some friends, "is the rim-collar having any irregularity in circularity?". This explanation of the usage of five to six overhead spotlights around, will allay this concern. Yes, the rim-collars of all these ZiSha works crafted by our Craftsmen ARE REGULAR in CIRCULARITY :-D, and you can rest assured. Thank you Friends.)

This is my second full-handmade zisha pot, my second pot from RealZisha.com, and my second pot from Craftsman Wang Xing 王兴

Commissioning process & customer service:

I commissioned this teapot back in August 2023. Ian and the rest of the team at Real ZiSha were quick to respond to my inquiries, and wanted to make sure they understood exactly what style and engravings I wanted. They were clear in communicating what they thought I was asking for, which helped provide confidence that my vision for the teapot was understood.
The teapot took many months longer than I had originally thought it might, and there were several attempts in the kiln that deformed or broke before making a successful one. I understood that this is a one of a kind piece, not something mass produced, and that this sort of thing can happen with firing ceramics. As an apology for the delay and failed attempts, they included the cups in the tea set, which I much appreciated. After a minor ordeal of getting the teapot through customs, it arrived in July of 2024.

Tea set:

The craftsmanship is evident in every aspect of this teapot: not just the way it looks, but the way it feels in your hands and the way it pours. It feels lighter than one would expect, and the clay feels smooth yet faintly textured in the hands. The engravings have a nice texture, too, having been etched in relief to the teapot. The pour is steady and smooth, with no dribbling. The clay imparts a silky texture to teas and dampens some of their astringency, without dampening the fragrance. For this reason, I’ve dedicated this teapot to Song Zhong oolong tea, and drinking it from this tea set feels deeply enriching.
