This is a rare ready piece that our Cao Family, represented by Zhang Ke, is presenting.
Our rare and cherished Cao Family's 100% Pure Ben Shan Lü Ni 曹家珍贵~100% 纯本山绿泥!,
《云炉》"Yun Lu",
at 250.3ml, crafted by L4 Associate Master Zhang Ke 助理工艺美术师, 张轲。
There are shapes that have a high surface area:volume ratio, like a Ming Lu, a Si Ting, and there are shapes that have a higher volume:surface area ratio, like a Han Wa, a Jing Lan.
But this is the one, with a high surface area:volume ratio, that probably beats the former all.
This is the Yun Lu!
The body itself has a high surface area:volume ratio, meaning a LOT more clay has to be used for a given volume.
Now,
add the spout that is elongated, and the handle, that is also very flamboyant and having a great sweep and extension!
You have a sculpted lid with more sculpted steps.
Add all the above four, and you have a model that utilised so much clay :-D!
And the icing on the cake,
This is crafted at 250ml, a rather large volume.
So, a Yun Lu at 250ml?
Here you have it!
A model utilising clay that is the equal of two 200ml pots.
Having a lot of Ben Shan Lü Ni, a clay that is difficult to craft with and form, and even more difficult to fire to the most ideal texture, color and finish, means this is the most pompous Ben Shan Lü Ni work that Zhang Ke has ever come up with!
Just to craft this from Zi Ni, will be difficult enough, for this is a shape that requires immense skills in Austere class works to accomplish.
We leave this to your appreciation of this masterful and highly challenging Ben Shan Lü Ni work by Zhang Ke!
Highly finite, humbly, our Cao Family's 100% Pure Ben Shan Lü Ni.
