A Masterpiece of a complicated EIGHTEEN-segmented Segmental-Corollary piece born from the brains and hands of Master Li! Superb planning and exquisite crafting, by Master Li, culminated in this stellar work of Segmental-Corollary Art!
The first thing that catches the attention of all to this Statement piece from Master Li, is the spectacular spout that is akin to a four-leaf clover. Master Li confidently and DEEPLY indented at the four diagonal corners. Accompanying this sophistication, is the organic and beautiful outer form:
Besides the spout which is a work of Art, Master Li balances it at the back as well, with the graceful and superbly sculpted handle:
This is an extremely difficult Segmental-Corollary piece! Encompassing EIGHTEEN Segments, all closely knit. The amount of planning and skill needed is extreme and exacting. After rounding up the clay slab into a cylinder, Master Li needs to pat into the curvaceous form from top to bottom, and then (here comes the difficult part), masterfully execute the eighteen parallel indentations separating each segment by only a narrow margin. It can easily go all awry, as the lines can EASILY veer away from straightness, but trust Master Li to manifest her prodigious skill for you the Tea Master and Owner!
Looking from the top, we see the beautiful RADIAL array of NEAT segments.

Master Li deftly ensures the detailing on the lid knob is the convergence of the EIGHTEEN radial segmented lines.
With the closely knit segments, deep indented lines, Master Li also explains the difficulty of, and the diligence needed to perform, the refining work (Shang Ming Zhen 上明针). Being a Gruelling piece of work to craft, Master Li has to perform intensive Shang Ming Zhen for the entire complex surfaces! This high level of Shang Ming Zhen, is unbelievably finished by Master Li with ABSOLUTE FINESSE:
This surface refining work that she has to perform ever so slowly and with much care, is gruelling. She has to take care of every mm of surface refining. The difficulties of a Segmental-Corollary Work, are many.
The details are what bring many a Segmental-Corollary ZiSha work to mediocrity, and what tells apart a true maestro at work:
The undulating contours HAVE to be curvaceous, and they cannot exhibit any sudden straightness detected from the interplay of light and shadows. These curvaceous undulating contours HAVE also to form a SHARP, DIRECT and DISTINCT contrast to to the eighteen vertical lines that that run from top to bottom. The knife that cuts through butter: are the shadows: The shadows cast from light angled from around. Master Li has to screen, screen and screen from all angles, and COMB every surface to ENSURE the smoothness of curves of the undulating surfaces. 上明针 Shang Ming Zhen is EXTREMELY difficult around the deeper indented crevice lines, or the sharp-ended vertical protrusion lines. Much neck muscle tension, and with one hand holding the pot, the other hand holding the refining tool sweeping carefully all the surfaces.
Surface Refining work (aka 上明针 Shang Ming Zhen) of a fully round Austere pot can be performed almost continuously by the left hand rotating the turntable while the right hand holds the Ming Zhen tool 牛角片. HOWEVER, a Segmental-Corollary pot cannot be done likewise. It has to be done differently: with the hand manoeuvring the Ming Zhen tool up and down, up and down, up and down, across the irregular surfaces. What adds fuel to fire, are that the undulations and curves that keep changing, and she has to keep changing the angulation of her refining blade. She can never be fast at this stage; It is time-consuming. She has to keep looking at what she had done, after each stroke gingerly applied.
When you see this, you understand how taxing and gruelling the work of Shang Ming Zhen on a Segmental-Corollary Class ZiSha work.

Master Li does not spare the complicated, curvy edges from her diligent 45degree-1mm chamfering at the edges!

There are countless half-handmade Segmental-Corollary Art feigning as Fully-Handmade, coming from many so-called Artists.
Consummate Master Li, she persists on Fully-Handmade Art and Craft.
A worker without any prior skill takes 6months to produce a half-handmade Austere pot. Craftsman Chen Fa Chu, Craftsman Gu Xiao Ming, Craftsman Chen Guo Zhi, each takes five years at least to perfect at a Fang Gu, a Xi Shi.
One can only imagine the amount of time and prodigious talent that Consummate Master Li need to present this work before you.
Here, in these photos, one learns and be trained in visual inspection for TRUE Fully-Handmade Segmental-Corollary pieces. Such fluffiness-creasing arising from the bottom which is patted narrower. One may also refer to her previous pieces the Dai Chun, the Ch’an Lian, and see the identical trademark signs!
