《筋纹宫灯》Jin Wen Gong Deng!
Consummate Master Li Yan Ru astonishes us again, with this stunning large volume Segmental-Corollary work!  The Segmental-Corollary Gong Deng work.

She mentions that it is another seven weeks to the important Chinese New Year, and this is her presentation to the owner and Tea Master steeping for five to six friends, and she says this is one Segmental-Corollary Artwork to keep as an emblematic Segmental-Corollary Artwork in your showroom and cabinet too.

Master Li designed it large, at about 320ml large! so as to serve more guests, in tim for the festive season!  A very difficult Segmental-Corollary work to perform as it has multiple segments: Six Pairs, meaning a total of TWELVE segments.
Being large at 320ml, she will be able to make full use of its size to execute and accomplish the COMPLICATION of these twelve segments!  Consummate Master Li does not shy away from challenges.




We feast upon the fruits of her design, details and craftsmanship!
The SPOUT and the HANDLE are both stunningly appointed!  ALL blessed with Master Li’s top class artistic direction and prodigal skill set for Segmental-Corollary Class Art.
The curvature, proportion and size, are all designed and mastered PERFECTLY by Master Li!!!

Master Li does not hold back here, and smashes it by executing a complicated and organic six-faceted Spout! The six segments are to rhyme in with and be cohesive with the large body of six pairs of segments.
The Spout alone, is a totem itself, an artistic delight!
Neat, edgy, graceful and simply stunning: the handle, its design, detailing, utter finishing, its blending, and cohesion with the main body.






The handle is nothing short of BEGUILING.

Master Li ensures that the complex and beautifully formed lid fits tightly in all six directions:








Master Li does not spare the complicated, twisting and turning edges from her diligent 45degree-1mm chamfering at the edges:

Being a Gruelling piece of work to craft, Master Li has to perform intensive Shang Ming Zhen for the entire complex surfaces!
We shake our heads in disbelief as all the rest of the team receive this in YiXIng from Master Li’s presentation for all to see.
The HIGH level of Shang Ming Zhen, is unbelievably finished with ABSOLUTE FINESSE!!!






Down to the lower body:





The surfacing work that she has to perform ever so slowly, carefully, is gruelling. She has to take care of every mm of surface refining ("上明针") for this work.

The difficulties of a Segmental-Corollary Work, are many,
The details are what bring many a Segmental-Corollary ZiSha work to mediocrity, and what tells apart a true maestro at work:
The undulating contours HAVE to be curvaceous, there cannot be any sudden straight lines detected from the interplay of light and shadows cast on the surfaces.  These curvaceous undulating contours HAVE also to form a direct, distinct and OPPOSING contrast to to the SIX vertical lines (three that run down on the left face, and three that run down on the right face).

The knife that cuts through butter: are the shadows: The shadows cast from light angled from around.  She has to screen, screen and screen from all angles, and comb every surface to ensure the smoothness of curves of the undulating surfaces.

Note that 上明针 Shang Ming Zhen (i.e. surface refining) is EXTREMELY difficult RIGHT AT the edges too, whether it is the sharp ended vertical crevice lines, or the sharp-ended vertical protrusion lines.  This is a pain to any Artist doing a Segmental-Corollary Class work.
Surface Refining work (aka 上明针 Shang Ming Zhen) of a fully round Austere pot can be performed almost continuously by the left hand rotating the turntable while the right hand holds the Ming Zhen tool 牛角片.

HOWEVER, a Segmental-Corollary pot cannot be done likewise.  It has to be done differently: with the hand manoeuvring the Ming Zhen tool up and down, up and down, up and down, across the irregular surfaces. And what adds fuel to fire, are that the curves keep changing, and she has to keep changing the angulation of her refining blade and one can never be fast at this stage; It is time-consuming. She has to keep looking at what she had done, after each stroke gingerly applied.

When you see this, you understand how taxing and gruelling the work of Shang Ming Zhen on a Segmental-Corollary Class ZiSha work.
