Half Moon shape, seemingly simple, yet oozing class, and immediately captures the happy attention of fortunate guests who sit opposite of the master of this ZiSha work.
Yuan Hui designs and refines it so:
The master pours the hot water into this work, and upon reaching the brim, closes the lid, a small amount of water flows over both generous convex slopes: front and back. The lid knob is an austere half-moon shape, that allows the master to grip well: lifting up and closing the lid is totally instinctive and easy.
Yuan Hui also designed and worked delectably in: the Qian Gai 嵌盖 interface, with the lid sitting inset. Closing the lid, is both an exercise of Zen, and an enjoyment itself: the lid collar slides in and then the master lowers the lid with a 100% satisfying closure into the Qian Gai interface, observing how the lid curved surface melding in as ONE, with the body, completing beautifully: the clear and opaque half-moon shape.
Yuan Hui is a real prodigy and genius professing in Polygonal Art.
The exercise is completely breathtaking.

The lid is a work of Art, admire how BOTH the top surface and the bottom of the lid collar, are PAINSTAKINGLY and detailedly worked to be both convex. Yuan Hui did not take the short cut and leave the bottom edge flat/straight. Yuan Hui crafted the curve, both front facing you (presuming you are right-handed): and on the other side as well.
Yuan Hui points to the lid collar, being totally asymmetrical, having a straight face on one side, and a loop above it. Despite the asymmetry, he still insists and works in the continuous curve on the bottom edge of the lid collar to be also CONTINUOUSLY mirroring the top surface of the lid,
ALL AROUND,
And the inverted U-shape sweeping curves on both opposing sides, result in the sweeping U-shape downward sweep of the other two opposing sides:
Complexity and Beauty.
Diligence and Ingenuity.
Yuan Hui exemplifies them thoroughly.
Yuan Hui goes on to design and craft two organic shapes, the spout and the handle, to mount an ingenious masterly complement to: the straight bilateral facades, the hemispherical top, and the two flat rectangular base surfaces. The spout is organically wavy, and the handle a more organic arch tilting higher up for easier pick up by the user master of this pot. He also sees the engraving of the Plum Blossoms with the flowers and branches, as vital in his vision and execution of this thoroughly balanced sophistication in ZiSha Art.
The Half-Moon shape also allows both sides to mimic an opened Chinese Fan! and upon both are canvasses for the Engraving Artist Jin Li Weng 金笠翁 to engrave his beautiful Plum Blossom tree. The clean surfaces: 1) straight bilateral sides, 2) the hemispherical top convex, and 3) the flat bottom slabs (which act as stable feet), present themselves invitingly for Li Weng to perform the sprawling and expansive body engraving. Yuan Hui entrusted this month' long work onto the hands of Li Weng, and the result is a mesmerising combination of Chinese Painting, Engraving and ZiSha Craftsmanship Art.
