Dearest Friends,
Presenting to you:
《菱花觞》"Ling Hua Shang", an Exquisite Work by extremely skilled Craftsman, Xia Jun Jian.
*生砂* 本山朱泥 *Sheng Sha* Ben Shan Zhu Ni, this being the most difficult ZhuNi type to work on, amongst all ZhuNi types.
Yes the most difficult ZhuNi type to work on: more difficult than XiaoMeiYao ZhuNi, ZhaoZhuangZhuNi, and "Normal" Ben Shan ZhuNi.
As usual, our group of superbly skilled Artisans not just bravely did it, they challenged one another and each embarked upon the Segmental-Corollary type class, and SUCCEEDED with this most difficult Sheng Sha Ben Shan Zhu Ni! This brilliant Work of Sheng Sha Zhu Ni is accomplished by 夏俊健老师 Xia Jun Jian.
This type of "Sheng" Sha Zhu Ni, literally translated as "Raw" ZhuNi (just like raw/sheng pu er🌿🌿🌿) , is and looks yes, very "raw", akin to: Qing Shui Ni (a type of ZiNi) which, after mining out from the site, weathered down, adding water and afterwhich swiftly the clay slab will be made and pounded, cut, parts formed, shaped, and fired.
The main issues that are attached to the use of Sheng Sha Zhu Ni in ZiSha crafting are:
1) Getting Sheng Sha Ben Shan Zhu Ni to form up into shape, is the most difficult amongst all ZhuNi types,
2) ZhuNi success rates out of the kiln is already the lowest of all ZiSha ore types (lower than ZiNi and DuanNi). And YET "Sheng Sha" Ben Shan Zhu Ni is the lowest of the Zhu Ni types! So there you have it, the lowest of the lowest kiln-success rate:
Sheng Sha Ben Shan Zhu Ni.
1) Sheng Sha Ben Shan Zhu Ni's extremely beautiful visuals. The colour is characteristic and unique for its type:
In the flesh, its colour is the amazing Dual-Dimensional understated gray/green-ish red to vermillion red (in sunlight-fluorescent to halogen-warm lighting [see below]) with the rightfully renowned: 古韵 "ancient charm" look. An Absolute beauty. A Conversational, Exquisite piece on your tea table with your friends.
2) It exhibits high porosity due to its heavier sandy composite,
3) Nurtures superbly!, the nurturing journey is one to behold for the lucky owner of a Sheng Sha Ben Zhu Ni:
Its desirability rests in:
1) Maximum difficulty of forming,
2) Extreme rarity because most craftsmen and Artists avoid using it to form pots,
3) Its especial and unmistakable visuals,
4) Its practicality of use = superb nurturing journey with patina formation,
5) The extreme skill of the Artisan, them daringly embarking to make Segmental-Corollary pots out of this lowest formability of ZhuNi types.
6) Artisan Jun Jian sends out a strong message by making the Segmental-Corollary class works with this clay, as this is THE pot shape that maximises the surface area of the Inner Walls in contact with the tea within, as the ultimate augmentation of this clay's position as the top porosity ZhuNi clay.
Understated dark vermillion red, high porosity, Segmental-Corollary class. 内敛,古韵。
